Ace High

I went on my first poker run today, a fundraiser for the family of a man who died in a motorcycle accident on Memorial Day. I met the family through a newspaper article on the run. For those that don't know, a poker run is a motorcycle ride in which there are five station, and at each station riders draw a card from a deck. At the end, the rider with the best poker hand wins a prize. The entry fee was $10, but I played a hand for Lilli as well, so at each station I drew two cards. I stood no chance of winning, as each of my hands were only ace high. The ride was still fun, though, and the family and friends of the man were very happy to see me, as well as surprised, because they didn't know I was a motorcyclist. It was very nice to be a part of something like that and feel the the very sincere gratitude of the family. The only downside is something that would have happened anyway; I lost my tachometer. I had been a little wobbly every since I bought the bike, but on my way to pick up card number four it started swinging between zero and the 8,500 rpm redline at a fever pitch, obviously doing no good at showing me the engine speed. It seemed only to happen at speeds above 70 mph, so I made a mental note to get it looked at. The next time I looked down there was no needle. It simply snapped off. Now I have a small black circle with an orange stripe on it letting me know my engine is somewhere between 2,000 and 7,000 rpm, which is handy. Oh well. I guess of all the things that could break, that's pretty minor.
