Food, swimming and the Gestapo

September 19, 2003
This morning we celebrated the half-way point of our language course with a pot-luck breakfast. A good meal and a fun day. This afternoon the tutorial group took a trip to a museum exhibit at the Steinwache prison. Kind of unnerving to visit a Nazi museum within a prison and torture facility once known as 'the hell of Western Germany'. Creepy place, but important. Yesterday I had my first German swimming pool experience. It was nice to get into the water, even if it was full of Germans. Later Mikko, Kris (Sweden) and I wend to the home of our friend Kyoung-Yong (Korea) for some ping-pong and dinner. He proceded to destroy us on the table and then served us an absolutely wonderful Korean dinner. We were joined by friends Kayo (Japan) and David (England). Kayo promised that she would cook us a traditional Japanese meal next. Tonight is the international food party at Wolfgang's (Part of a group of German students who help socially integrate the foreigners). I, however, had already scheduled an outing to a former steel mill with my Doubles. Mikko and Kris are coming as well. Perhaps the party will still be going when we get back.

Note on the cuisine exchange program: We have since been treated to a post ping-pong dinner of quische and cake from our friend Alexia (France) and a rainy afternoon Japanese lunch at Kayos, including an appearence by Kayo in traditional Japanese attire. Both very nice. Next Thursday is my night to get New Mexican on these people. We have already had a test run with only the Scandanavians and me and it looks like it will be a good evening. A great club to join!
